The Castle That Kai Built

By Tammy Yee
Island Heritage, 2019

Kai the mermaid builds a lavish sandcastle under the sea. The castle seems to attract all kinds of sea life, from clams and jellyfish to fearsome sharks and playful dolphins. One-by-one, each visitor causes a troublemaking chain of events that leads to disaster for Kai! What will happen to Kai and the castle that Kai built? The Castle That Kai Built is a cumulative tale in which the story repeats and builds as more characters are introduced.

Conservation success...Kakapo Baby Boom!

Finished my Kakapo origami for my upcoming book, "Easy Bird Origami," in time to learn of successful conservation efforts in New Zealand! There are only 125 Kakapos in the wild--thanks to an intensive breeding program, 33 fluffy chicks have hatched this season. Go Kakapo! http://www.earthtouchnews.com/conservation/success-stories/baby-boom-for-one-of-the-worlds-rarest-parrots

From Mount Crumpit comes news, Recession Steals Christmas! Even Santa is downsizing, resorting to hiring non-union reindeer...

Can we bring back Cindy Lou Who, now nearly fifty-two? Have we lost her at the mall? Does she still sing at all?

With my own youngest Who at that awkward age where he's "too old" to help me decorate, yet still young enough to miss it if I don't, I've been waxing nostalgic. Dragging out the old ornaments and tinsel wreath, threading hooks through Popsicle stick stars and seashell angels with crooked eyes.

In the process, I found some old Christmas origami I designed years ago. Instructions can be found on my Origami Page. Simply print and fold.

Santa

Angel

So have fun this Christmas. Don't sweat the small stuff. And if you see Cindy Lou, tell her Christmas dinner is at my house. I'm preparing roast beast.
